Policies
Please review the following policies before boarding your dog at Bichons And Friends.
These exist in order to have the safest environment for every dog that stays here.
| Your dog must be spayed or neutered unless under 8 months old or you have a letter from a veterinarian stating it should not be done due to a medical condition | |
| Your dog must get along with other dogs. | |
| A pre-visit evaluation is required for all new boarders. If your dog has never spent a night away from home (or hasn't done so in the past six months) and you plan on your dog being boarded for more than two consecutive nights, your dog will need to spend one night here before the actual boarding. This will let your dog know that you are coming back for him/her (important for all dogs, but crucial for dogs that are newly rescued or adopted). The trial overnight will also make the extended boarding time much less stressful for your dog because he/she will already be familiar with the surroundings (people, dogs, layout). You will be responsible for paying the regular rate for the overnight stay, but 50% of the cost will be credited to your dog's first full boarding. | |
| If your dog is accustomed to spending nights away from home, a trial overnight is not required. Instead the dog must spend a minimum of 3 hours at Bichons And Friends one afternoon prior to the boarding. This is with the dog here alone, without the owners, to see how he/she interacts with other dogs when not having to also be "protecting the Master". There is no charge for this afternoon visit. | |
| You must show proof of current rabies, DHLPP (within past year or proof of acceptable titer), and bordetella (within the past 6 months). None of these are to be administered less than 5 days before arrival. | |
| Your dog must be free of parasites and not had any communicable illnesses within the past month prior to boarding. | |
| Must be on a monthly regime of heartworm medication and Frontline (or equivalent) for ticks, fleas and mites. Dogs with fleas, ticks or mites will NOT be accepted for boarding. If it is discovered your dog does have fleas, ticks or mites after being dropped off, he/she will be taken to a veterinarian for immediate treatment, and Owner of dog will be responsible for paying all vet bills and mileage costs incurred for that treatment. | |
| To reduce the chances of gastric upset, please bring your dog's food and provide written feeding instructions. Please bring enough for his/her stay, but NOT your large bag or container. Also let us know if your dog has any food allergies or if there are any types of treats or chewies your dog cannot have. | |
| Provide any supplements, medications, etc. for your pet as well as detailed instructions on when to give them, on a full or empty stomach, crushed or whole, etc. | |
| If your dog has a crate at home that is a "safe place" for him/her, please bring it with you so that "safe place" can also be found here. Bring along your dog's favorite blanket, if there is one. | |
| Bring an item of yours with your scent on it (recently worn and not washed -- perhaps an old t-shirt that you wore the day before bringing your dog here) to help add to the "comforts of home" feeling we want to provide. Please do NOT bring something of importance in case it gets nibbled or chewed. | |
| Provide your veterinarian's name, address and phone number. Depending upon the circumstances, treatment (if necessary) may be at your veterinarian's or at a different licensed veterinarian. You will need to sign a medical authorization statement (included in Terms & Conditions) when leaving your dog, allowing Jill Siegel to authorize treatment and that you will be responsible for all charges incurred. Unless treatment must be given immediately for the dog's wellbeing, you will be contacted first with what has been medically advised for your pet after the diagnosis but before treatment is started. | |
| Leave a phone number (or two) where you can be reached in case of an emergency. Also provide an alternative person and phone number in case you cannot be reached and time is of the essence. | |
| Be sure you bring your dog's collar and/or harness with current tags (rabies, identification, county license) and a leash. | |
| Payment will be made in full (by check, money order or cash) at the time you drop off your dog for boarding. The first day is the day you leave your pet. The last day is the day you pick up your pet if it is before 7 PM. If after 7 PM, additional charges may apply. If you do not pick up your pet on the scheduled departure day, services will continue to be provided to your dog at the daily rate. Any additional days, unplanned vet expenses, etc. must be paid the day you arrive to take your pet(s) home. | |
| Since only a few dogs will be boarded at any one time, a deposit must be paid in order to hold specific dates for you. A deposit of 50% of the cost for the boarding period is required to hold dates for your dog(s). | |
| If you need to cancel or change your dates, please contact Bichons And Friends Small Dog B&B as soon as possible! If you cancel at least 14 days before the day your dog was to arrive, there is no cancellation fee and your deposit will be returned to you in full. If you cancel 7 to 13 days before the day your dog was to arrive, the cancellation fee is 50% of the boarding fee for the reserved length of stay. If you cancel less than one week before the day your dog was to arrive, the cancellation fee will range between 50% to 100% of the boarding fee. Cancellation fees will double during all holiday periods and all weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day. | |
| The MOST IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW is that your dog will be treated, cared for and loved as if he/she was my own! If you could ask my dogs how that is, I KNOW they would tell you it's GREAT!!! |
